New Dress Trends Emerge at Red Carpet Ceremonies
The red carpet was filled with plenty of crowd pleasing dresses at this past awards ceremony. Though structured frocks were the choice du jour, sweeping gowns did make a sizeable appearance. It was the pride without the prejudice, when one of Hollywood’s up-and-coming starlets stepped on the red carpet with her one-shouldered aubergine mermaid number. Opting to keep it safe with a deep subdued hue, her counterpart, who looked comparably striking in her Dijon creation, chose to strike it rich in her 1930s-esque gown.
Speaking of striking gold, one of our favorite award winning actresses struck our immediate attention with her oversized bow-tied one shouldered design, setting the stage for intricate dress details such as folds, gathers, and ruching. It seems the trend for deep hued gowns ran rampant, from the aforementioned to the more classic black floor sweepers, including one very forgiving empire, or shall we say maternity gown. Yet the night wouldn’t be complete without the spark of color, or lack of color.
In total opposition to the sea of dark purveyors were the neutrals – long column gowns, with a high/low hemline seemed to ignite some chatter, as did a creamy strapless frilled frock. Applauding our color clad starlets from stepping away from the opposite ends of the spectrum and into a range of their own was the moss-green chiffon, a striking royal-blue satin and most notable, the draped silk in standout teal worn by one of today’s most curvaceous stars.
Walking a line all of her own, the evening’s beauty stood out in a lustrous beaded champagne tulle confection. A definite winning combination of classic and glamorous, bringing to mind a fairytale feminine. By and large, the evening’s looks mixed sex appeal, elegance and mystery, yet exuded a true classicism, which, of late, has not been seen on the red carpet. The true noteworthy, trend-setting, structured looks suggest that this is the year for the classic beauty to shine way beyond the glamorous sex-induced looks of awards past.
